1) CLSC Semi Annual Gift Card Fund Raising Sale
Do you know the gift card fund raising sale had big contributions to CLSC school budget in last few years? It has earned $3075 at 2003/2004 , $3340 at 2004/2005, $2387 at 2005/2006, but only $525 at 2006/2007 for CLSC. The low outcome from last year gift card sale and the facility fee jump had forced us to make big tuition adjustment at this year. With the forecast of the inflation speed, we realize it is impossible to neglect the contribution from the gift card sale to our school's budget.
By purchasing the gift cards from CLSC, you make the local business donate money to our school, while cost nothing from your own pocket, or even save money for yourself. We have various department store gift cards ( see attachment list); $25 gift card will be sold as $24, which is 4% saving for you, meanwhile, it donate 6% to our school. For AA grocery store gift card, you will get 5% saving and CLSC keep the other 5% discount. Our school will make average $5 profit for every $100 gift card sale. We hope every family in CLSC will participate for this very worthwhile cause.
Currently, we have grocery store gift cards of AA, Lotte and HMart; and store gift cards of Staple, Amozon.com and Home Depot in stock. For other store gift cards, please pre-order through 歐玲君 Linda Eckert 301-498-3184 or eckert_98@yahoo.com. The Gift card Fund raising sale in CLSC is from 03/09 to 04/27. On May 04, the top sale/student class will receive an ice cream party.
2) 2008 DC Dragon boat race will be on May 17 & 18.
CLSC had formed a team and won the 2nd place award in 2007 race. This year we like to form the school team again with interested high/middle school students, CLSC alumni and CLSC adults. Each participant need to pay $40 to cover the registration, training and lunch. We need to have at least 20 persons signup to form a team. 台灣之光 - 法國明日節雜技大賽冠軍 - 林韋良
年僅十八歲的大學生林韋良，本月初參加第二十九屆法國明日節雜技大賽, 奪下最高榮譽首獎總統獎、四場次共六千名觀眾票選第一名、俄羅斯藝術表演家維克多奇特別獎。
4) 作家楊謹倫 (Gene Yang) 先生簽名會 Friday, March 28, 2008, 7:00 -9:00 PM in the Banneker Room at the George Howard Building.
楊先生將討論他的插圖小說"American Born Chinese"（在美國出生的中國人）楊先生這本書是敘述一個年青男孩從華埠搬到郊區後，在文化認同上掙扎的故事。這本書是獲得 "普林茲獎" (Printz Award) 的第一本插圖小說，而且入圍 (finalist) "國家圖書獎" (National Book Award)。歡迎 13 歲以上的青少年及成人參加。 Visit CLSC web for details and direction.
Mark your calendar on Friday, March 28, 2008, 7:00 PM, author Gene Luen Yang will discuss his award-winning book, American Born Chinese in the Banneker Room at the George Howard Building. The American Born Chinese won the 2007 Printz Award for Excellence in Young Adult Literature and was a 2006 National Book Award Finalist, because of the effective use of the graphic novel format, and the author's courage to discuss life as an young Asian American .
