1)  CLSC hosts the 2008 STARTALK summer language program in Burleigh Manor Middle school from June 30 to July 25.
Thanks to program manager Bianca Chang and teacher Iris Chao's well planning, the program run very well at the first week. Besides learning Chinese language, the program will teach students Yo-Yo and Lion dance with master teachers from Taiwan. We will arrange these two master teachers to give lessons to CLSC students and families. Yo-Yo session is Monday July 7, 7:00 - 9:00 PM, Central Library meeting room. Lion dance session is Monday July 14. 7:00 -9:00 PM Central Library meeting room. Please come to these two free sessions to advance your Yo-Yo skill and learn the fun of Lion dance.

2)  Howard County Library Cultural Connection Project needs your input of cultural related workshops and events for Fall 2008.
Mrs. Fritzi Newton is the Cultural Connections Project Coordinator for Howard County Library. Cultural Connections began over two years ago and the purpose of the initiative is to enhance library service for Howard County foreign-born community. The Library enhances service by enlarging the materials collection - books, movies, music, magazines and more - for all ages; by increasing children's classes and adult workshops; by making the library branches more user-friendly with bilingual signage; and by training staff in cultural awareness.

The Miller Branch staff members are currently planning workshops and events for Fall 2008 and would like your input. They recently presented a Chinese/English story and language class for young children, as well as This Is Your Life, a session on learning how to record the life history of a family member or friend. Other recent events have included an Asian Expo, Korean Cuisine, The World of Tea, and A Brit in Mao's Army.
