Virtual Mandarin

Beginner Course

This level is designed to help students develop functional language ability in spoken and listening Mandarin Chinese in order to meet the basic needs in their personal and academic lives requiring the use of Chinese. Students in Level 1 learn to create with sentence level language, ask and answer questions, and handle simple everyday life situations.

Beginner-Intermediate Course

This level is designed for students who have successfully completed a one-year course in spoken and pinyin Mandarin Chinese, or its equivalent. While many of the tasks students will learn to handle are similar to those of Level I, the level of language required to carry out these tasks is a bit more advanced. In this course, taught in emphasis more Mandarin Chinese, students will be required to comprehend and produce a paragraph-level Chinese. Targeting practice of spoken and simple written Chinese in communicative activities will be complemented by exercising drills and presentation towards more fine-tune pronunciation, expand vocabulary, and internalize more complex grammatical constructions.

Intermediate Course

This intermediate Chinese course is designed for students who have acquired basic Mandarin Chinese and are ready to expand their vocabulary, sentence structures, and conversational skills. Students will continue to build a strong foundation in reading pinyin, listening, and speaking Mandarin. The course emphasizes communication in everyday contexts, helping learners navigate real-life situations more confidently and fluently. In addition, students will develop the ability to comprehend and produce more complex sentences. The course will cover key grammar points such as regulative complements, comparisons, modal verbs, and the correct use of measure words. Students will continue to learn culturally relevant topics including Chinese holidays, daily routines, food culture, and etiquette.
